Hannah's 1st Decannulation Attempt

For those of you who don't know who we are; Hannah is 4 years old and has had her trach since she was 1 years old (She got it a few days after her birthday). Hannah lived in the hospital for the first 507 days of her life. She was born at 29 weeks and weighed 1lbs 7oz. She was intubated for the first 3 months of her life, cpap for a month, high flow for a month, low flow for 6 months ( after having her VSD repaired)... Then bipap followed by intubated, followed by bipap, followed by trach..

Hannah has chronic lung diseases from being premature. She was pretty much ventilator depended for the first year of having a trach. Then a year of just when she was a sleep, just at night and now has been off the ventilator for a year!!!

The only throat problems I was told she had since the beginning was that her vocal cord looked a bit sluggish, but not for sure paralyzed.

We originally started off at children s hospital in Vancouver and now are at a smaller hospital on the island that can handle trach care.

Here is our video from our first decannulation attempt trip

Here are each of the days in FULL, I made the 1st video just with any important medical bits for quick watching.. if your interested in the full days here they are :)

  1. I'm sorry to hear that the decan attempt didn't work out. I found your blog on the MOTB list and this is my first visit- I love the video format for the blogs!
