Trach ties

So today's class was all about trach ties;how to make then and how to put them on. Trach ties need to be changed every day with another person. One person has to hold on the the trach it's self the hole time to make sure it doesn't fall out while the other cleans the neck and ties the new ties.

I also asked while I was in the class about how I was told they wouldn't train in August. Just the home nursing lady is off in August so all the nurses need to be trained before that. That was a relief to hear!

Home nursing

This morning I woke up with a runny nose, no voice and a wicked cough. My sickness is defiantly getting worse. I decided that my mom hailey and I will go back to Vancouver Sunday night Hailey will go to the sitters Monday do me and my mom can take the course at the hospital and then we will come back home. What's the point in being in Vancouver if I'm only there for Hannah and I'm sick and can't see her?
I made an appointment for infant development here intown and a dentist appointment on Tuesday and I just met with the home nursing people.
They approved me for 65 hours a week but I might not get that many hours depending on how many nurses are available. The hours will most likely be night time with a few hours during the day so I can get stuff done. They won't be responsible for looking after Hailey or doing any clean up at my place.
My social worker approved me for 4 hours a week for a house cleaner and suggested I find someone like a nany and a baby sitter for just Hailey(which the baby sitter would have to have no kids of her own and no other kids to prevent hailey from catching somthing and giving it to Hannah)
I thought that September was a reasonable time for Hannah's discharge but the organizer of the home nursing informed me that the trainer is going in vacation all of August so if we aren't trained in July we won't be home till september!!

The girls rooms

Someone(DB) once said to me that if I ever left him I would be nothing but trailer park trash for the rest of my life. Well I finally finished setting up the girls room and the living room and I think I did pretty good for us.

Hannah's room is the purple room and Hailey's is the pink. They both are pooka dot butterfly themed.

Hailey's pediatrician app

Took Hailey to the pediatrician office she goes to in Vancouver. It wasn't her usual doctor instead it was one that also works in the NICU and was hailey's doctor when she was there. So it worked out great.
For Hailey's cough she said to come back in two weeks if it hasn't gone away and she would give us puffers. She said she would probably need them every time she gets sick for the next year or so. It didn't sound like it was a preemie related thing sounded that it was common in small babies and that they usual grow out of it or it could be the start of Asthma.
For her poo's she prescribed " PEG 3350 " to soften her stools. She told us to wait a week and start to get her to drink a few cups of water a day or the softener will only make it worse. I am suppose to give it to her for 1-2 months until her bowel is normal again and she poo's every day.
The doctor also informed me that tap water wouldn't make her stole hard, that you boil water to get the bacteria out of the water. Which is not what the pediatrician where we live told me! She also said that you don't need to boil Vancouver water!!!!! This hole time I though her poo was bad because I was rinsing her bottles with non-boiled water.
On another note, Hannah and Hailey weigh the same amount for the first time in their life!! Hannah is still short though and Hailey hasn't gained weight since January - February

Trach Pics

This is what Hannah's Trach looks like on the outside

Hannah's Trach is this style on the inside. The inflatable bubble helps prevent a leak(air coming back out of the hole instead of going down into her lungs)

Once Hannah is off of the ventilator her Trach will have an attachment like this one. It is a type of humidifier so her throat doesn't dry out.

These are pictures of what it looks like when you suction a Trach. There are numbers on the tube you put into the Trach to get her secretions. On the left it is the proper number your suppose to insert to and on the right is if you put to much which could irritate or damage the tissues.

G-Tube. This is what Hannah use to have and will eventually get again when she starts to eat. It has a balloon on the end just like the Trach witch makes it so it doesn't fall out.

Goose egg

Today was fairly uneventful (Hailey still has a cough and today a runny nose), so we couldn't go see Hannah.
I was in the kitchen decorating a cake today and I looked back to check on Hailey and she was on top of the coffee table for the first time headed a cross it for the lap top. By the time I noticed I couldn't get there in time and she landed on her face hitting her head on the chair's legs that the laptop was on. She gave her self a nice goose egg and a little bit of a bleeding nose.
Lately I'v been putting Hailey to bed around 8:30-9 and by 11:30 she will cry and want to sleep on me. Not be side me on me. If I try to roll her off she notices instantly so I haven't been getting the greatest sleeps. She wont let me put her in the crib and even if I try letting her cry her self to sleep I swear she would go all night if I let her.. Which I cant because im in an apartment and dont. BUT tonight the first night in a while she woke up because I was talking loud on the phone around 11, I cuddled her for the rest of the conversation and then put her to bed with out a peep. So Happy.
